Privacy Policy for ThrumCast

Introduction

Thank you for using ThrumCast ("the App"). This Privacy Policy is designed to help you understand how we handle information when you use our iOS application. The short version: the App has no accounts, no analytics, and no server of ours. Everything it knows about you stays on your device.

Information Collection

The App does not collect any personal information from users. We do not:

• Collect your name, email address, or other contact information
• Track your location
• Monitor your device usage or use analytics tools
• Send your listening history, your statistics, or any user identifier to any service
• Use cookies or similar tracking technologies
• Sell or share any information with third parties

The App has no sign-in and no user account. We operate no server that receives data from the App.

Information Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following on your device only, so that it can work as a podcast player:

• Your subscriptions, your play queue, and your playback positions
• Downloaded episode audio files, stored exactly as the publisher served them
• Transcripts and ad markers the App generates for episodes you play or scan
• Your ad-skipping settings, your corrections to detected ads, and your custom skip rules
• Lifetime statistics such as the count of ads skipped and the time saved
• Parental content rules, if you set any
• A cache of show artwork

None of this leaves your device except as described in the next two sections. Deleting the App deletes all of it.

Ad Detection

The App finds ads by transcribing episode audio and analyzing the transcript. Transcription runs on your device using Apple's speech frameworks. Analysis runs using Apple Foundation Models, either on your device or on Apple's Private Cloud Compute.

When analysis runs on Private Cloud Compute, the transcript text of the segment being analyzed is sent to Apple's service. Apple designs Private Cloud Compute so that request data is used only to fulfill the request, is not retained after the response, and is not accessible to Apple. No audio file is ever sent anywhere. No transcript is sent to any service other than the detection model. Detection results are never shared between users.

Network Requests

Like every podcast app, the App makes network requests to do its job. Each of these carries no user identifier and no listening history:

• Podcast publishers. The App fetches RSS feeds and downloads episode audio and artwork directly from the servers each publisher uses. Those servers see the request in the same way they see a request from any other podcast app, and their own privacy policies apply.
• PodcastIndex. Show search, a trending list, and feed lookup use the PodcastIndex API. A search request carries the text you typed. A trending request carries only a result cap and a language code. Neither carries your subscriptions.
• Reference links. When the App shows a link for a person, place, or topic mentioned in an episode, that link points to Wikipedia or to a DuckDuckGo search. The App makes no request to either site until you open the link.

Face ID and Touch ID

The parental controls screen is locked behind the device owner's Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode. Authentication is performed by iOS. The App never receives or stores biometric data; it only learns whether the authentication succeeded.

Third-Party Services

The App uses no third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. The App never shows or inserts an ad of its own. The only outside services it contacts are the podcast publishers you subscribe to, PodcastIndex, and Apple, as described above.

Children

The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. We recommend that you review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
